Agriculture

At the beginning of the 20th century, the farmstead had acquired a considerable size and was made up of small and self-sufficient holdings.

After the war, Alessandro Marcello turned all the land to sharecropping, but the use of machinery on the one hand, and a new lifestyle with its newly acquired needs on the other, led his son Marco to find solutions that were more in step with the times.

Fontanelle is replete with springs, whose key purpose was to drain the water and distribute it efficiently. The land was restructured from the early 70s with impressive drainage works that allowed to farm corn and soybeans intensively and manage the vineyards more efficiently.

The land restructuring has made Fontanelle an undisputed green haven circled by the Prealps, which lie only a few kilometres away and protect it from the cold northern winds, making it ideal for growing vines.
